Coming from a long line of farmers and land stewards on Myaamiaki land, Shaun grew up on a small farm before heading to engineering school, where he studied electrical engineering and economics.
He worked in various engineering roles with both large firms and startups, including at Tesla. He is an advocate of alternative energy from a young age, building wind turbines and solar modules as a teenager as well as working in the utilities industry developing energy storage solutions for EVs.
In 2017, he shifted from the office to the woodshop, where he began building furniture and the idea for Meraki began. He was also involved in various urban agriculture and community projects while living in San Francisco but ultimately sought to return to the land where he apprenticed and helped manage organic farms and homesteads throughout Northern Calfornia. He has also worked on design/build projects with Open Source Ecology and Earthship Biotecture, and served as an architectural panelmember for California College of the Arts.
